What is a birth doula?
A doula refers to a trained non-medical support person who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to their client before, during, and shortly after childbirth to help them achieve the healthiest, most satisfying experience possible.
Emotional Support:
A doula provides continuous emotional support during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. They are a knowledgeable presence during the rollercoaster of emotions. They will talk you through and leave you feeling empowered.
Physical Support:
Doulas are trained in comfort measures that assist in pain management, labor progression, and positioning. These can be used on their own or in conjunction with pain management.
Informational support:
Doulas have knowledge on stages of labor, medical interventions, positioning, pain management, and much more. They can be a sounding board when making informed decisions.
